FAIMER Participates in The Network

FAIMER Participates in The Network: Towards Unity
for Health Conference in
Uganda
In September 2007, three FAIMER staff
members traveled to Kampala, Uganda,
to participate in The Network: Towards
Unity for Health’s Annual Meeting. The
conference, which was centered on the
theme “Human Resources for Health:
Recruitment, Education, and Retention,”
was held in cooperation with the Faculty
of Medicine, Makerere University. The
conference highlighted the shortage of
health workers in Africa, and the need
for greater government expenditure in
health and in the education of health
personnel. Sarah Kiguli, M.B.Ch.B.,
M.Med., a 2004 FAIMER Institute
Fellow, served as chair of the local
meeting organizing committee.
In conjunction with this meeting,
FAIMER Institute Fellows from West
Africa—Bosede Afolabi, M.B.Ch.B.
